Youth Communication is a non-profit located in Midtown Manhattan. To quote, “Youth Communication equips and empowers educators and youth workers with real teen-written stories and a literacy-rich training model to engage struggling youth and build their social and emotional learning skills. Our stories, developed in a rigorous writing program, are uniquely compelling to youth whose voices are missing from mainstream content. The stories model social and emotional learning, and show teens how to make positive changes in their lives. They also motivate teens to read and write.”

summary

I had the privilege of working with Youth Communication from January 2016 to August 2016. I was tasked with rebranding their company’s identity, including their logo, color palette, typefaces and general aesthetics. The end goal was to utilize these branded assets and build an entirely new website where they could continue to promote their services, seek fundraising from donors and sell their products through an e-commerce platform. In addition to designing their website, I designed templates for their printed books and periodicals. My favorite experience during the project was shooting and directing a photo-shoot with some real students from Youth Communication’s program. It was truly a gift to meet the teenagers they assist and get small glimpses into their lives and struggles. It really spoke volumes to the impact and importance of Youth Communication’s work. I am very thankful I was able to use my skills to help such an amazing company and community.
